HWB Senate opp NHA<\/a> S. 359 A proposed heritage area with a xenophobic theme. <\/strong>A non-profit wants management of a huge part of Honolulu to be made subject to the approval of the Department of the Interior. \u00c2\u00a0The area would include the Honolulu waterfront, Kapalama to the Ala Wai, then Mauka along Punahou, Makiki up over Tantalus to the Pali lookout and back to Kapalama Ahupuaa. \u00c2\u00a0“Theme 1” would be “Native Hawaiians’ struggle for cultural preservation and self determination.”<\/p>\n

The Akaka Bill (H.R. 2314\/S.1011)<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act of 2009\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 would authorize the creation a separate race-based government for \u00e2\u20ac\u0153native Hawaiians\u00e2\u20ac\u009d only, and would authorize negotiations leading to transfers of State lands and money to that government. An earlier version of the Bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives. The current version is poised for passage in the House once again.
